Unique Icelandic language.
Icelandic has retained many features of Old Norse and has changed relatively little over the centuries. This makes Icelandic a unique language that has preserved much of its ancient roots. Speakers of Old Norse would likely have little difficulty understanding modern Icelandic, despite the passage of centuries.
The Icelandic alphabet consists of 32 letters, including some special characters. One distinctive feature of Icelandic is the presence of several diacritic marks, such as acute accents, grave accents, and umlauts, which can significantly affect the pronunciation and meaning of words.
Due to its small population and geographical isolation, the Icelandic language has faced relatively little external influence compared to other languages. This has contributed to its preservation and the maintenance of its linguistic traditions. The Icelandic government has also taken steps to protect and promote the use of the language, including language policies, educational initiatives, and the establishment of the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.
