«The young red dog - a mix of dachshund with a mongrel - very similar face to a fox» by the name of Kashtanka lost its owner, carpenter Luka Aleksandrych. She’s trying to track him down, but no luck. In a deep evening, exhausted, Kashtanka falls asleep at the door of the entrance, where she is accidentally found by a mysterious stranger, who later turns out to be a clown. He caresses the animal and decides to train it for the circus. Kashtanka gets a new nickname Auntie. The dog finds himself in an unfamiliar environment and meets with other animals - goose Ivan Ivanovich, cat Fyodor Timofeevich and pig Khavronia Ivanovna.
Mr Georges (so the stranger’s name) teaches Kashtanka various tricks and tries to perform a new number, but the goose tragically dies (as it turns out, a horse accidentally stepped on him), and Kashtanka’s debut failed, As she gets to know her former masters - Luka Alexandrovich and his son Fedya - during the performance, she throws herself at them with a joyous bark. «Auntie» gets old owners.
