The letter is in reverse of the postcard:

"Dear Andrian Ivanovich!

Yesterday we received parcels from Vasya and Tanya

I almost had a heart attack out of excitement

Imagine, for the new year, and such a delight

New Year’s Eve was all in the home atmosphere

For all this, thank you very much! You spoil me,

And this in wartime too much, I strive to accustom myself

To the depravity of always being ready or may have to meet.

And so, thanks to your endless concern for me,

I can’t achieve it. I owe you a lot and I don’t know...

Will I live to be able to thank you dear, kind Adrian Ivanovich.
