Local ducat in Poland – What it is?
So here we have the local ducat Jawor, Poland, nominal - 6. The year of issue of this coin is 2010, mint: Czech Republic, Jablonec nad Nisou. Total circulation – 7.500. On the reverse it is written: "City of Bread, City of Peace", on the obverse the coat of arms of the city is depicted Jawor.
There are two types of ducats:
1) City ducats (dukaty miejskie),
2) Local ducats (dukaty lokalne).
Ducats are produced by order of the local administrations of Poland, ducats are minted at the Warszawska Mint (Poland) and the Czech Mint (Jablonec). After the issuance of the coin, usually takes about 2 - 4 months, ducats are a local payment means in the territory under the jurisdiction of the administration that ordered the issue of coins.
During this period, it is possible to exchange zloty for ducats and back, with exchange rate 1:1. The ducats has the date of entry into circulation and the date of completion (homorowania). After the release of the ducats, they cease to function as a means of payment and continue to exist as souvenirs or collectibles.
The value of ducats is expressed in special «local currency units». The stories usually focus on local memorabilia, historical and natural attractions, and historical personalities.
