Artist of the Imperial Porcelain Factory.
Sergey Solomko was born on August 10, 1867 in Saint Petersburg and was baptized on September 12 in Isaakievsky Cathedral. He came from the hereditary nobles of the Chernihiv province. He graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he studied in 1883 - 1887, then in 1887 - 1888. A volunteer at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg.
In the late 1880s he began collaborating with art magazines as an illustrator. His first known works in this field were published in 1888 in the magazine «Sever». At the same time, he began to cooperate with the magazine «Niva». He drew for the magazines «World of Art», «Jester» and others. Executed for the publishing house A. S. Suvorin illustrations for the works of A. S. Pushkin («Stone Guest» (1895), «Drowned Man» (1895), «Tale of Tsar Saltan» (1896), «Bakhchisaray Fountain» (1897), A. P. Chekhova («Peshon» Kalakova» (1892) M. Y. Lermontova (1900) and «Dead souls» by N. V. Gogol (1901)
The 1900s marked the peak of the artist’s popularity and demand. Not only historical watercolors and book graphics brought popularity, but also works in the field of jewelry art and costume: the artist created models for the Imperial porcelain factory, collaborated with the jewelry firm K. Fabergé.
In the second half of the 1920s, Solomko fell seriously ill. He died in 1928 at the Russian house of St. Geneviève de Bois.
