Vatnajökull National Park is a vast protected area in Iceland that encompasses the Vatnajökull glacier, as well as surrounding landscapes, volcanoes, rivers, and other natural features. Established in 2008, it is the largest national park in Europe in terms of area, covering approximately 14,141 square kilometers (5,460 square miles), which is about 13% of Iceland's total land area.

The national park is characterized by a diverse range of natural features and ecosystems. It includes several active volcanoes, such as Öræfajökull and Grímsvötn, which contribute to the dynamic geological processes of the region. The park also encompasses extensive lava fields, geothermal areas, waterfalls, rivers, and lush lowland forests.

Due to its vast size and diverse landscapes, Vatnajökull National Park is divided into several regions, each with its own distinct characteristics and attractions. These regions include Skaftafell, Jökulsárgljúfur, and the eastern highlands.
