So here we have the Ukrainian hryvna, nominal - 5. The year of issue of this coin is 1999, mint: National Bank of Ukraine, Kiev. Total circulation – 50,000. The coin is dedicated to the 900th anniversary of Novgorod-Seversky principality.
The Principality of Novgorod-Seversk was a medieval Rus' principality centered on the town now called Novhorod-Siverskyi. The principality was aligned to the Principality of Chernigov. In 1185, a large Russian campaign against the Polovtsy ended in defeat for Prince Igor, famously recorded in The Tale of Igor's Campaign. The principality was taken by the principality of Briansk after the Mongol invasions, and then by the Lithuanians when the power of the Golden Horde began to decline. In the fifteenth-century the principality was given to Prince Ivan of Mozhaisk when he fled from Grand Prince Vasily II.
It was established as a separate principality at the Congress of Princes in 1097. The city of Novgorod-Seversky became the center of a large detached principality within the Chernihiv Principality, rights to which after the internecine war of the middle 1090s were recognized by other princes for the descendants of Svyatoslav Yaroslavich. The first prince in 1097 - 1115 was Oleg Svyatoslavich.
By a truce in 1503, Novgorod-Seversky passed to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. The last prince of Novgorod-Seversky Vasily Shemyakin was accused of treason, died in captivity in 1523, after which the principality lost all independence.
