More information
The territory of the military estate in Jurmala.
Dubulti - part of the city of Jurmala 22 km from Riga. In Dubulti, the Lielupe River separates from the sea only a narrow strip of land 320 meters wide. The name is derived from the 15th-century Latvian Dubults tavern in these places.
Soon after the war of 1812, villagers - participants of the military campaign - appeared in the village. Among them, Field Marshal Barclay de Tolly. According to one version, he built the very first dacha in Dubulti. In 1841, the village received the official name of Dubelen.
Until 1917, the Dubultes were the only village in the Riga Seaside where Jews had the right to settle, since in the second half of the 19th century most of the offshore land passed into the possession of Baron Firksa, who prohibited their residence. The Dubuls remained outside the Baron’s domain.
