Lenin Park is a public recreation park located south of the Cuban capital, Havana, in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo. It is the largest amusement park on the island. It was conceived by Fidel Castro in 1969.
It was created in 1969 - 1972 by renowned highly qualified Cubans under the direction of close associate Fidel Castro Celia Sánchez.
The park has an area of 650 hectares. It was opened on April 22, 1972. It is equipped with picnic areas, children’s railroad, zoo, aquarium, art gallery, ceramics workshop, attractions, exhibition hall, stadium, restaurants, etc. When creating the park, it was transplanted, often from places very far away, 80 thousand trees, the most common species: Brava Canyon, Yagruma, Ficus, Pine, Araucaria, Cedar, Almassigo, Carolina, Tripleris, Sagovirus and various palm trees.
There is a dam on the Almendares River, which in the central part of the park formed a man-made lake, where a marina with pleasure boats was built. The stadium hosts equestrian events, and visitors are given the opportunity to ride horses.
