Pushkin`s research in Kazan.
On September 4, 1833, the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin arrived in Kazan, which was traveling in Russian cities, collecting materials on the history of the Pugachev rebellion. He was in town for two days and seven hours.
It was a long journey beginning on 17 August and ending on 20 November 1833. Pushkin visited Nizhny Novgorod, Simbirsk, Orenburg and Uralsk.
The first who know about the guest, those who were ordered to supervise him. The personality of Yemelyan Pugachev - a folk hero and state villain.
Peasant uprisings of Stepan Razin and Yemelyan Pugachev impressed him with his freedom-loving character. His personal assessments did not coincide with the authorities' views. As a result, Pushkin was banned from publishing a study called «The History of Pugachev».
Pushkin planned to write a research paper, and was well acquainted with existing documentary sources, but he needed personal impressions. And 60 years after the peasant uprising of Pugachev, he goes to places of former battles in order to get unknown evidence.
The materials collected during the trip were used in the book «The History of Pugachev», as well as in the novel «The Captain’s Daughter», the idea of which probably arose under the impression of the collected material.
